The main beneficiary institution of RENA in Bosnia and Herzegovina is the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations.
Bosnia and Herzegovina is a Potential Candidate Country for EU accession following the decision of the Thessaloniki European Council of June 2003. On 16 June 2008, the EU and Bosnia and Herzegovina signed the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) which will enter into force once the ratification process has been completed. A new European Partnership with Bosnia and Herzegovina was adopted by the Council on 18 February 2008.
The EU continues to be present in Bosnia and Herzegovina within the framework of the Common Foreign and Security Policy and the European Security and Defence Policy.
